QUICK IDENTIFICATION

  • Aquatic plant that is incredibly invasive
  • First pondweed to come up in spring and to die back in mid-summer
  • 2 – 3 inch blue-green leaves; wavy along the edges
  • Leaves are stiff and crinkled; approximately 1/2-inch wide and 2 – 3 inches long
  • Length from 1 to 3 feet

Important Information This plant produces small greenish brown pinecone look-a-likes called turions. It forms dense mats in the water and appears reddish-brown under water, but is actually green when pulled out of the water.
