New Invaders Threatening Powell County
THURSDAY NOVEMBER 7TH 6:00 – 8:00 pm Ovando School Gym
Josh Wagoner has been the Montana Department of Agriculture’s Early Detection, Rapid Response Coordinator since the program’s inception, just over two and a half years ago. Prior to this role, Josh worked in weed management in the field for Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks for eight years and for over a decade at the county and municipal level. His keen interest in weeds, habitat, and herbicide really started while trying to produce quality hay and grazing on his family’s land, post-college. That enthusiasm has never wavered since.
6:00-8:00: Distribution, identification, biology, ecology, and management methods for rush skeletonweed and ventenata. These two weeds are currently the two biggest threats to Powell County landowners and producers. Ventenata is present in one site near Elliston and rush skeletonweed is moving toward the county, primarily along the interstate corridor. This presentation will highlight how to spot them, why it’s so important to keep these extremely difficult invaders out of Powell County, and as a last resort, what to do if they’re found.
WE WILL HAVE A 50 MINUTE DISCUSSION ON EACH SPECIES WITH A 10 MINUTE BREAK FROM 6:50 TO 7:00 PM
