It seems like just yesterday when legislators Ken Walsh and Marilyn Marler were asked to seek legislation to establish a Montana Weed Awareness Week for the first full week of June! And after an easy passage through the legislature, it was officially adopted.
“With all of the focus on all-taxa (especially aquatics) these past few legislative sessions, and the fact that the national invasive species awareness week falls in mid winter for our region, we wanted to establish a week that focuses solely on terrestrial noxious weeds,” says Becky Kington, MWCA Executive Director.
Shantell Frame Martin with the Montana Noxious Weed Education Campaign, Jane Mangold with MSU and Jasmine Reimer with MT Dept of Agriculture have worked together to create a document chalk full of resources and links to use with social media, with local news outlets and a theme laid out for the week by the 4 organizations and agencies.
In addition to this resource, the MWCA is hosting daily drawings for the week at 2 p.m. on Facebook for their gun raffle fundraiser. 8 guns will be given away over the course of 7 days. There are still tickets available if you are looking for some. Contact Becky at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. The links for the documents and resources are listed here:
