Northwest Montana Weed Tour

August 5 - 7 2008

Come to the beautiful northwest Montana and see and learn what we are doing to stop Tansy Ragwort, Rush Skeletonweed, Orange Hawkweed, Eurasian Water Milfoil and other new invaders from reaching the rest of Montana. Three days of beautiful scenery, noxious weeds and great food.

Day one starts in Libby. We will travel to the Island Lake area in the heart of the Tansy Ragwort infestation. You will get an opportunity to witness the most remarkable bio-control success story in the northwest as you capture and release the Cinnabar Moth larvae.  You will see the affects of Orange Hawkweed on the environment as you enjoy lunch at the beautiful Island Lake. For dinner you are invited to a Dutch-Oven dinner fit for a king at the Fawn Creek Camp ground.

Day two you will travel to Sanders County and see Rush Skeletonweed in all it slender. You will see Japanese Knot Weed, Dalmatian Toadflax and learn how difficult it is to control some of these weeds. Day two ends in Thompson Falls at a 6:00 p.m. BBQ and informal discussion with the milfoil task force members at Thompson Falls State Park.

Day three starts with a float trip down the Clark Fork River to see Eurasian Water Milfoil. You will see how it chocks the river and learn how we will deal with it. We will end the tour at a public education meeting and comment time.

Lunch will be provided all three days and dinner on days one and two. Accommodations can be made in Libby at any of our many motels and in Thompson Falls at the Rim Rock (827-3536). Come one day or all three, the opportunity to learn about these weeds is worth the time spent. RSVP if you can.
