DRAFT Montana Department of Transportation Statewide Roadside Integrated Vegetation Management Plan

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Attached is a link to the revised DRAFT Montana Department of Transportation Statewide Roadside Integrated Vegetation Management Plan (2012-2018).  We incorporated the comments from county weed districts, other stakeholders, and updated and revised information.  We also changed the plan format to make it easier to read.  The county noxious weed list in Appendix B is incomplete since we are still receiving responses from county weed districts.  Please forward any comments to me no later than January 16, 2012.

A Decision-making Guide for Invasive Species Program Managers

Monday, June 13th, 2011

The idea for the guide was conceived at the 2010 annual meeting of the Continental Dialogue on Non‐Native Forest Insects and Diseases. Michael Buck, from the National Association of State Foresters led the effort, assisted by many members of the Dialogue.

Note to Readers: This guide was prepared to assist senior level program managers and policy makers in establishing priorities and making choices for invasive species management programs. While recognizing the critical and primary importance of prevention programs, the focus of the guide is the management of invasive species once they have arrived, which is an uncomfortable, but increasingly familiar role for many program managers and policy makers.

State Plan

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

The first Montana Weed Management Plan was developed in 1985 and was presented by the Montana State Weed Coordinator at the Montana Weed Control Association meeting in January, 1986.

  • It highlighted state-listed noxious weeds
  • Land manager responsibilities
  • priority weeds for management across the state

In addition, it supported new [1985] county requirements in the County Noxious Weed Control Act specifying weed management plans at the county level. (more…)

Montana Department of Transportation Integrated Weed Management Plan 2006-20111

Saturday, April 1st, 2006

April 2006

Greetings,

The Montana Department of Transportation’s Roadside Vegetation Management Plan is the implementation of Governor Schweitzer’s Montana Weed Management Plan. A cornerstone of our weed management plan is education to increase awareness of real and potential impacts to Montana’s heritage.

Vehicles traveling along Montana’s highways play an active role in the dispersal of noxious weeds. These non-native plants are jeopardizing Montana’s future for recreation, agricultural productivity, and economic prosperity. MDT’s plan provides specific actions to ensure healthy and diverse vegetation along Montana’s roadsides.

I am pleased to offer the Roadside Vegetation Management Plan to all Montanans as we work together to ensure a balanced and diverse landscape for today and future generations.

Sincerely,

Jim Lynch
