2010 MWCA Calendar Takes Shape

There have been lots of questions about the new calendar be produced this year by the MWCA.  We are hoping that this will clarify up your questions.

This is the first time in over 10 years MWCA has produced a calendar.  It was developed with the education committee as a scenic calendar with some of the lesser known noxious weed profiled each month.  It promises to be a beautiful look at Montana in the four seasons, with educational opportunities each month.

Click here to see  a draft preview of the cover and January's photo and weed profile.  Special member pricing is available.  Contact Becky to pre-order now.

Whats New This Week?

Check out the events page!  There are still lots of events out there and this week we got some new things that have been added. The war against weeds needs your help.

The Southwestern Area just sent us their spring newsletter and we posted it on the Southwestern Area page.  It is a big PDF, but it is worth the wait.

Visit the commercial applicators page.  We have been adding new members on this page the last few weeks.  This page is not limited to commercial applicators of herbicides but any business who can help you with weed control.  Our two newest premier business members are Get'er Done Wiest who specializes in brush and trees like salt cedar and Russian olive and MAGS Boer Goats and Rangeland Restoration, who as the name says specializes in grazing with goats.   Welcome to the new business members!

Weedometer!

Here is a new one for you.  The University of Wisconsin has developed a Weedometer.

It works for 7 locations in Montana.  It probably won't change when you treat your weeds, but the name in its self makes it worth a look.  Click here to visit the Weedometer.

MWCA ATV Dealer of the Year

Riverside Marine & Cycle is a major underwriter of this year's raffle.  RMC as a dealer of vehicles that are used for both weed control and recreation has the ability to help spread the message about the dangers of noxious weeds.  Their commitment to the cause to educate people about the impact of noxious weeds will help save the last best place.  When you visit their store, tell them MWCA sent you and thanks for the support.

About MWCA

Noxious weeds are the greatest environmental threat facing Montana today. These invaders can devastate wildlife habitat and fisheries, they can adversely alter view sheds, and they cause great economic and ecological damage to the state.

The mission of the Montana Weed Control Association is to strengthen, support, and coordinate weed management efforts in the state of Montana in accordance with the Montana State Weed Plan. The Association has three primary goals:

Networking - To create and sustain channels that encourage collaboration, participation, and sharing of knowledge and expertise.
Education - To provide non-biased and balanced collection, sharing, and dissemination of knowledge to the membership and the public.
Research Assistance - To gather input from members to ascertain research priorities, to communicate priorities and needs to the research community, to assist in the funding process, and to relay research results back to the membership.

The Montana Weed Control Association has been in existence for over 50 years and was originally created to be an organization for the state's weed supervisors. Today, the organization represents a growing and diverse membership base across the state. The MWCA is a 501(c)3 organization and relies on grants,  membership dues, trainings, and an annual conference to maintain viability.

The Billings Gazette featured weed fighters.  Read more here.
