Many county weed programs in Montana offer cost share incentives for treating noxious weeds. For instance, in Madison County, up to $750 per year is offered in cost share as long as state listed noxious weeds are being treated and the landowners' property does not fall within a grant area. To find out if your county offers cost share programs, please contact your local county weed coordinator.
Fortunately in the past few years, weeds have become a focus for many environmental organizations and money is available through grant programs. Perhaps the most important program offered in Montana is the Department of Agriculture's Noxious Weed Trust Fund. This fund was recently capped at 10 million by the Montana legislature and offers over $400,000 in grants from the interest generated in that fund each year. Other programs include the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's PAC funding, local conservation district funding, and PPL Montana. There are many other grant programs available, but remember that your likelihood of obtaining a grant greatly increases when you can include your neighbors, both local, state and federal in a WMA or WPA. Again, your best resources for acquiring information regarding grant opportunities comes from your local weed professionals. |
